Professor

Welcome to the 35th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japan Epidemiological Association, held at Kochi-City Culture Plaza CUL-PORT from February 12th (Wed.) to 15th (Fri.), 2025, under the theme of “Innovations derived from legacy works”. During the past several decades, Japan has accumulated resources and expertise regarding design, conduct and application of epidemiological studies for improving health both at population and individual levels. Although the Japanese fundamentals for maintaining and advancing research activities are deteriorating due to its sluggish economy and shrinking population, delving into Japanese legacy works are still informative in designing and conducting epidemiological studies in Asia. Accumulation of epidemiological studies is a necessary process for bringing out innovative ideas to cope with health issues specific to Asian populations.
At this meeting, there are 9 designated sessions (7 symposia, and 2 satellite seminars) regarding cooperation of epidemiological studies and implementation of study findings, and 354 general presentations. As relevant programs, 4 preseminars regarding methodology are available. Although the official language is Japanese, at least one program will be held in English on each day. I hope you have opportunities to retrieve impactful findings from your own works and extend your research networks.
The meeting venue is near the Harimaya-bashi Bus/Light-rail Station and you are able to visit places of interest, such as Kochi Castle (one of the oldest castles composed of original buildings), Katsura-hama Beach (an arch shaped beach suitable for appreciating the full moon), and Makino Botanical Garden (a museum to honor achievements of a world-famous botanical scholar).
Kochi also is recognized as an area producing excellent Japanese Sake and unique food items, such as Katsuo-no-tataki (grilled bonito), Fruits-tomato (small sized tomato with enriched sweetness), and Buntan citrus fruit. Please enjoy Kochi's exceptional cuisine.
We are looking forward to meeting you.
