Dear Colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to chair the joint meeting of 2nd Asian and 14th Japanese Leksell Gamma Knife Society, and to invite many Gamma Knife users from many Asian Countries to Nagoya. Since the first installation of Gamma Knife in Asan Medical Center, Seoul, in 1990, almost 20 years past. To date, growing number of Gamma Knife sites reached almost 100 in this area. In the early 1990s, only a few Asian doctors participated in international meeting and were generally very silent or mutic. However the Asian users are becoming much more powerful and often show a leading position in many fields of radiosurgery.In the very first time, indications of radiosurgery with gamma knife were very much limited, in reality only AVM and acoustic tumors were listed.Thereafter many new indications have been developed for benign and malignant brain tumors, functional diseases like neuralgia, parkinsonism, and epilepsy. Although most of them are seemingly the promising indication for gamma knife, we have to establish the definite roles in treating these disorders and cooperate with other treatment modalities like medication, surgery, chemotherapy or standard irradiation to achieve the best results for the patients. |
Definite indications for Gamma Knife have been more clearer than before, however, we still have many matters unsolved. Those things are apparently a new frontier for us, like application of gamma knife treatment for many functional diseases, or choosing fractionation protocols.
I strongly recommend you to participate the meeting and to discuss many problems and to find out new frontiers for radiosurgery and gamma knife. We have to show the spreading power of Asian Conutries in this field .
Please enjoy the most comfortable season for trip and study in Nagoya, where is located in the very center of Japanese Main Island, and easy to access to many places in all over Japan. |

日本の先生, 研究者の各位 |
今回第2回のアジアと14回日本ガンマナイフの合同学会を名古屋において開催することとなりました。
1990 年の東京大学への導入に始まる日本でのガンマナイフ治療も、約20 年の歴史を刻んで、多くの成果を残すとともに、日常の脳外科診療の中で確固たる地位を確保するに至っております。しかしながら現在なお治療の長期成績が不明瞭な部分もあり、またガンマナイフ治療の適応が確定していない部分もあります。
パーフェクション、サイバーナイフ、ノバリスなどの新たな治療機器の導入とともに、それぞれの特徴を十分理解した上での使い分けが必要とされます。近年ガンマナイフ治療の領域において、アジア勢力の台頭は著しく、いろいろな未解決の問題に対しても、種々の解決策を提示できるものと確信しています。
特にFunctional Radiosurgery においては、てんかん、神経痛、不随意運動症などについての成果の発表が期待されます。今回は合同学会として第一会場はもっぱら英語で、第二会場では日本語にての発表を基本として行いますが、英語での発表にもどんどん参入していただければ幸いです。
なおポスターセッションについても英語、日本語どちらでも結構です。
アジアにおけるSpreading Power を示すべく、本合同学会に参加されますようお願い申し上げます。 |
